Fly Fishing for spring Native Steelhead Trout. This is a very unique fishery that kicks off around the last week of March with the peak being around April 15th. Although weather on Prince of Wales Island is very mild, this time of year can still produce occasional snow flurries. Purple or Black “Egg Sucking Leaches” with weighted eyeballs seem to work best, however a variety of patterns including “Glow Bugs” work great. You cannot keep Steelhead less than 40 inches. I and my guests “Catch and Release ONLY”. Cutthroat Trout, Dolly Varden and all species of salmon (except Chinook) are abundant in the streams of Prince of Wales Island.

Prince of Wales Island has literally hundreds of streams and lakes to         fish, many which are accessible from the road system.  This Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game site offers great information about the many streams and lakes on our island as well as fish run times
